midnight, I woke to a thunderous banging at the door
I ran from my room to see what was the cause
to find my grandprents standing over my mother, who was crying so broken heartedly the I paused
austin, hes dying, hes been shot
time stopped, I went into shock
this wasn't happening, It wasn't, It could not
and then I heard nothing, nothing except the ticking of a clock

at the hospital, five minutes later, we arrived
but was told that we could not see you
they had to get you revived
had I lost you? was it to late? I didn't know what to do
we got to go back one and two at a time
they told us this might be the last time we see you alive
why did this happen to you, you whose behavior was so sublime
you had to survive

my brother did survive, he did not die
and in fact is doing quite well
sometimes, knowing what could/almost happened, I still want to cry
but seeing him alive and smiling, fills me with more joy than I could ever say or tell
