Free-Bird Joyce's Eulogy

Free-bird, Joyce's Eulogy
I saw a bird sat in a cage,
Past her sadness and her rage,
The bird had longed once to be free,
To swap her bars for the sky and trees.
Sat behind her metal door,
The song she had, she sang no more,
All her dreams seemed far away,
Forever in darkness she thought she'd stay.
She longed to feel the warm sun on her face,
To ride the breeze with strength and grace,
A glorious sight for all to see,
Sharing a beautiful song with you and me.
Until one day she saw her chance,
Through faded blue eyes she took a glance,
She stepped on up to the open door,
She spread her wings and began to soar.
As she rose higher in the sky,
I thought of you and began to cry,
Just like the bird you were trapped deep inside,
Dementia your tormenter, from which you could not hide.
We loved you so deeply and we always will,
Your place in our hearts nobody could fill,
Your pain is now over your suffering ceased,
Our one hope is now that you sleep in peace.
