The Happy Tramp
I'se looking for a park bench
One that's out of sight
Get paper from the rubbish bins
To keep me warm at night
I sees a poem contest
I finks I can do that
Them's the linking words me finks
like dat n rat n cat
you place them at the end of lines
to make them sound real good
them ritings are my favourite kind
well, the ones I understood
a pencil from the betting shop
some paper from the bin
I'll go home to my cardboard box
And then I will begin
I'll keeps the ritngs little
An make it really neat
I'll fix the hole that's in my shoe
An rest my blistered feet
When I goes out begging
I sit an raise a hand
I hear the people saying words
That I don't understand
you see, I am a lucky one
this lady tought me well
to read the words on rubbish cans
on toilet walls as well
my parents died at early age
when I was sucking fumbs
a lady took me to a place
I think she called the slums
She tought me how to feed Myself
with rubbish from the trash
collect the empty alloy cans
to make a little cash
but now that ladies past away
an I am all growd up
she gave me all her alloy cans
so's I could live it up
I'll do my ritings here tonight
And post it right away
Then eat the crusty bread I found
Only yesterday
it really helped to pass the time
the ritings best can be
Win or lose
It has been fun
It makes no mind to me
