Kelly Sweet Poems

I hear the call of sacred words
And I am listening
They whisper like an ancient wind
Where are you going?
...

I understand now
This is life
There is no sudden burst of realization
Rather, once you are born, you are
...

Perhaps I should not let my mind
Wander to such far away places
Does my memory change the past?
Do sparks become fires? Do ghosts now have faces?
...

Death.
She teeters on the edge of you. And I am left to watch her fall.
She plays with bending over and stretching her arms toward your empty unknown vacuum and I cannot pull her back.
I cannot make her stay. I must stand 50 feet away, and watch.

I hear the call of sacred words
And I am listening
They whisper like an ancient wind
Where are you going?
There is no sound around me now
And yet I hear so clear
And everything I’ve waited for
I know it’s all right here
And suddenly I see the faces
Of those of us who cry
And those of us who’ve learned to laugh
Even when it hurts inside
Suddenly I see their stories
Precious as they are
And deep within them, soft as sunlight
I hear the music of their hearts
Do they know that I can see them
When it feels like no one can?
Do they know that I walk with them
And will always hold their hand?
I smile to myself, for some things I’ll never know
Some words are better heard unsaid
And some roads
Are easier tread
Unknown.
