A Strange Girl

A strange girl
Brown in color
Blue in spirit
Slowly passes me in
Class one day
Her eyes
Stapled to the floor
Her lips curled between her teeth
Her arms eerily
Crossed in front of her
She appears fixed in this way for a while
She appears a statue
Fixed in front of my teachers desk
“Ordinary”
I thought for a minute
That was her word
So much so that for a while
I imagined it
Floating over her head
Like the invisible could of doom
She seemed to be evading with her
Plain brown eyes
Still focused on a blue fiber in the sea of red carpet
White!
Something white
Clutch inside her round dark hands!
I guessed
From the way she stood
She intended to leave the crumpled thing there
She was just too afraid to lay it down
Then like some dying calf
She starts to cry
Her knees seem to quake
And buckle
Hunched over
On the floor now
Tears falling from her face
To the floor
Her face to the floor
Her sad face to the floor
The paper
Even more tightly in her right had
Turns the darkest red
And flames
Orange
Red
Black
Seem to slither from the same palm
Ouch!
My palm!
The burning was unbearable
And all at once
I was taken in
By this strange girl
In font of my teachers desk
And as the sensation grew hotter and hotter
I came to scratch and cry
At the pain
Exuding from my right arm
But all in one minute
It was gone!
The girl was gone!
The pain was gone!
That terrible blue fiber
That had so interested me before
Was gone!
And my precious paper
White!
And written on the top
“A Strange Girl”
“A poem by Kristina Joyner”
With out a moments hesitation
Chiming in time
My teacher’s voice
Rhetorically asking
“Ms. Joyner is that the writing assignment? ”
Leaving me speechless
In front of my teachers desk
