"Alright class, open to page 32 and let's begin chapter 7 lesson 2,
Cell reproduction is a process that begins when one cell decides that it must become two."
The words drone on and lull to sleep.
The message of lessons sink slowly into the deep.
...

The alchemical fire burns
Breath of fire and breath of light are its nature
Into the depths of Eros we find its plea
Do not cage the beast
...

Delight in the tremors of fate
Let them shake the world of certitudes
Chaos is your maker
Order is its shame
...

Why do I fight?
Why do I scratch
And claw
And scream
...

What comes to me today?
What must I seek out?
Another dub,
Another case,
...

If you knock, will there be an answer,
Or only silence that grows like a cancer,
A quiet so dark it absorbs all that is light,
And takes from you what once felt right,
...

What to do when questions become answers,
And the lives we fought become our standards,
When down becomes up, and up becomes down,
When we climb endlessly just to reach the ground,
...

The Clouded Mind

"Alright class, open to page 32 and let's begin chapter 7 lesson 2,
Cell reproduction is a process that begins when one cell decides that it must become two."
The words drone on and lull to sleep.
The message of lessons sink slowly into the deep.

I look around the room to see
If anyone is as bored as me.
And who would guess my eyes do find
A multitude of students blind,
Blind to words and charts and graphs
For they cannot know what they cannot grasp.

And to whom do we place this blame
When the students snooze and the teachers shame?
Does it fall upon the child,
Unbounded and wild,
With passions so raw they can't help but smile,
Or does it lay on a system,
Treating youth as a symptom,
A sickly state ended as tests do dismiss them?

"Why, the boy simply cannot learn
While he sits and he squirms
So I'll give him this pill to make his mind firm."
And now there's solution
In a man-made pollution
That changes a mind's substance
From pure to dilution.

So the doctor writes prescriptions
While the drug lord counts additions
Of profit and gain and healing turned fame
While the student does notice things aren't quite the same.
Colors once bright
Do fade out of sight
And the joys he once knew
Cause little delight.

"But his test scores are A's,
And his grades we can praise,
How greatly this treatment will better his days! "

But the future isn't now,
And a mind in a cloud
Will never see sun to brighten and wow.
