What I Should Have Done

I was happy to go on a holiday
To visit my mother so far away
Looked forward to laugh and fun
Go before I should have done

My suitcase was all so ready
The airplane also went steady
The telephone rang me up
My brother gave me a chock

He said our mum passed away
You must come no need to stay
There was no laughter at all
Sorrow and teardrops did fall

A tearful day in the church
All prayers and flowers it hurt
But a new little life “in spe”
My daughter was a mum to be

Kissed the coffin with my lips
So dark inside like an eclipse
Her heart was pure as gold
In my soul she will grow old

My mum will never come back
In my heart the colour is black
But my life must still go on
Before I should have done
