You & I
Were it not for you and I,
then I would need no alibi,
our friendship soars on outstretched wings,
though the timing muddles things,
First and most you are my friend,
and this be true until the end,
I try to keep my feelings down,
though sweat beads gather on my brow,
Will we be close when we are old,
when all we've known are in the ground?
Whate'er may the future hold,
when the trumpets on the last day sound?
The end, my friend, is nowhere seen,
for I dare not dream of when we are cleaved.
