Lesley Bates Poems

So Summer is here, please be glad
Though wind and rain makes you mad
It brings you sunshine, brings you light
Think of children, their thrills of delight!
...

What mending do you have to do, a woman asked of me
One thing that needs a stitch – perhaps there’s even three
What mending asked the woman again, making it quite plain
That there were more than three things and shirking would not gain.

Summer Days

So Summer is here, please be glad
Though wind and rain makes you mad
It brings you sunshine, brings you light
Think of children, their thrills of delight!

So make time to enjoy these days
You don’t have to make journey’s away
Create a new calm, look at vista’s around
Take a walk, smell a flower—sit on ground!

The blue skies are there, if not seen
As white and grey clouds make a screen
But whilst you are out and about
Feel God’s happiness—so give a shout!

And while you have broken the mould
To NOT work everyday; please be bold
Try smiling inside, not just with pride
But because you have God by your side.

The beauty of landscape and sea
God created the scene — pleasures to see
Like the people in each Village and Place
God gave many gifts, for working his grace.

Now summer is here, so go enjoy
The scenery, the weather, hope employ
Feel the warmth, the love, from the dear ones above
See your family, your friends; and make love!
