I Am Not Without You

No my love, I am not without you.
When my heart beats, I know that your heart is beating, too.
When I smile, I know that somewhere out there, you're dancing
To the harvest—and the moons are gathered in pairs,
And the roses are whispering about what to wear,
And the elephants are yawning like tired dogs,
Leaving their footprints in the sand.
No my love, I am not without you.
The melody of their mixed vocals, when they sing for us-
It's true that I am not without you.
The seagulls are bearing messages from moon to moon,
From sea to sea,
But still you cannot hear me.
The chimpanzees are playing drums, trying to master
The rhythm of our hearts.
