Grandpa

Grey prunes sparkle
with life’s desire.
small feet trundle,
daughters crumble.

Smaller, smaller
they become,
back to the earth
from where they sprung

So hard to look
into his eyes,
only reminds
how fast time flies.

Grandpa, Grandpa,
where did it go?
are you scared?
your eyes do not show.

I will always remember
when you bought me that suit
I ran to the playground-
without making a sound.

Black and white photos-
proof we were there,
could it be only imagination?
such memories are rare.

Bigger, darker
we become,
“Reach for the sky,
Follow life’s drum! ”

It beats forever
in the breast of the child
so don’t worry grandpa
you are safe in my mind.
