Shattered Sense
Lying in an empty room
In a dreary, daydreamy daze.
There are flies all around me,
Circling my head, being a nuisance.
They suck out the slew
Of misinterpreted thoughts
From the deepest, darkest corner
Of my widely opened mind.
I am defenseless compared
To the soul sucking flies.
So insignificant, yet so powerful.
They inhabit my entire being.
Their ritual progresses,
Picking the warmth from my heart,
The light from my eyes.
When they are done, nothing is left.
Hours passed. Their job has finished.
I am cold. I am nothing.
Nothing but a shattered sense of self,
And an empty, lifeless stare.
The flies.
The tiny, unavoidable flies.
They have stolen so much,
Yet have gained nothing from my terror.
