A Reason And A Season

Everything has its season
every word, every thought, every voice
as sure as the summer is born from the womb of may
as certain as the moon reigns over the night
and as the sun smiles on the day
everything has its season

these lips of mine, they once spoke grand words
and lit flames on the faces of proud queens
once they reveled in the delights of sweet wine
my tongue once bathed in the embrace of chardonnay
now they run dry with ugly cracks
lost in thoughts of despair and wondering what i'll drink today
it's stripped of its allure, i have nothing left to say

my heart is a coward ready to flee at every sound
i am a recluse, with mountains of debts unmet
as i wallow in my filth
my space littered with garbage, sorry and unkempt
maybe i'll find some other place to lay my head
life is a ruthless teacher who sternly demands we pass her test
yes, maybe i should lay down
i am weary now and could really do with a rest.
