My Liverpool Made Me

Liverpool made me.
I've stood up for what I believe in.
Racism, prejudice, inequality, I' ve fought them all.
I know how the system works...
Exploitation and the psychology that you are supposed to be thankful for a job that pays you, so that you can make someone else rich.
I've travelled to find work,
I've left my family to find work
I've experienced racism,
I've had my family's lives and safety threatened by bigots
I've been the one that doesn't fit in
I've been the one who got sacked for speaking up when others were silent
I've taken responsibility even when it cost me financially,
I've given back to those who gave up time for me,
I've been taken advantage of more times than I can recall
People have and still do dislike me and what I say and believe.....that's life!
I've felt the pain of losing a parent,
I've known the love of my family,
I've learned from the loyalty and love of my dogs
I'll always look to help people
I know where I come from
I know why I am who I am today
Self-reflection is tough, but necessary
I believe in lifelong education
I admire the selfless, not the selfish
But I am tired
When I am gone I'll be gone like billions who went before me and all those who will come after me
I will become dust again
And that's ok because that is the cycle
I don't seek reward here or in an imaginary afterlife
I know who I am
I know what I am
I am a socialist
I am a scouser
My family helped me
Liverpool made me
