Liz Palana Poems

To wash the dishes
is to erase the history
of last night's stain,
to soak the markings
...

My mother's words are
Made of ginger ale,
Hot and steamy,
Inside the thermos container.
...

Love is a commodity
displayed on shelves
and racks of grocery stores,
purchased on cash registers
...

I hear the kettle whistling
And putting off hot steams
Of boiling water.

Washing Dishes

To wash the dishes
is to erase the history
of last night's stain,
to soak the markings
of sugar frosted cake and spicy chili sauce
in soap suds,
and to scribble yet another chapter
of a never-ending story
with bubbles of different colors
until the dripping water from the faucet
drench them in tears
and make them disappear
forever.
