Please, a diversion, it need not be big.
Just enough to disguise this solitary state.

I step forward, with not one hand to hold me.

When my mouth is closed and my ears are open,
I hear the rustle of trees, and the distant ocean.

When my words fall silent and I simply listen

Should we move without precision and gallantly flounder where we may.
Are ours the lives we felt they were, are ours the eyes that blinked unsure
Are we the friends that never felt, or expressed our own hearts wealth.

Derelict Soul

Please, a diversion, it need not be big.
Just enough to disguise this solitary state.

I step forward, with not one hand to hold me.
I listen, awaiting the footsteps that will run parallel to mine.
They never come.

Everywhere the duets mock me, admiring their own refection in another’s eyes.
My love obtains no reflection; knocking at the doors of hearts and finding them all full.

Unyielding emptiness tempts me into darkness, beckoning me with a truthful gaze.

I am derelict property, damaged through lack of care.
The icy wind whistles through the walls, reaching for my heart.

Inside, where my heart should beat, my soul shivers from the cold.
Dampened by her tears, no comfort she is offered.

Their false compassion fuels my anger.
The heat surges.

A welcome diversion from my visible isolation.
