I dreamed I could fly, free like a bird.
Just when I woke up I was back in the dirt,
Back in absurd, back being hurt,
Back to see everything that had occurred,

Like A Careless Black Bird

I dreamed I could fly, free like a bird.
Just when I woke up I was back in the dirt,
Back in absurd, back being hurt,
Back to see everything that had occurred,
Wish I could go back to what I preferred,
Wish I'd be deaf so I'd never have heard,
Wish I'd be blind so my view would be blurred,
Wish I was mute, never spoken a word,
Wish I was high and my mind not alert,
Wish I could fly like a careless black bird.

Yet I am awake and I cannot revert
To neither my dream nor the times we would flirt.
You'll never be back, tightly clasped to my shirt
And I am a wreck - trapped in the dirt.
