Lips Like Licorice

Glancing over to see her flawless face,
her eyes caught mine with a warm grin.
She said that I was too young to wear it,
but saw the desperation in my eyes and shared it.
Making my lips like licorice,
the lipstick stained her cheek.
Hugging me like a teddy bear,
she was gone like the wind.
I became a cheetah,
fast and determined.
I reached in my coloring box,
swaying the markers all around my cheeks.
Using the brightest of colors,
I became just like my mother.
