He awoke to find she wasn't there
The bed so empty cold and bare
Where could she be he loved her so
Out side was cold with falling snow

He was sat upon the park bench a can of cider in his hand
Like so many others of his age he was listening to some band
Wires from his mobile were plugged into his ears
Yet his eyes looked dead and soulless he was high and full of fear
...

Why do I feel so empty,
tired and oppressed
Why is my cup half empty
and I rarely even dress
...

There in the sand of the desert
And the heat of the mid day sun
Lay a young English soldier
Crying out for the arms of his mum
...
