Mark Sellen Poems

Ever felt like an overwound clock?
No more tick and no more tock,
Just sitting still,
Gathering dust,
...

I wanted a bike,
To do a hundred miles per hour,
But I couldn’t afford a bike,
So I went and bought a Jawa.
...

In these horrific mud-filled trenches,
Death lurks and death has struck,
Decaying limbs and forgotten bodies,
Lie still and lifeless in the muck.
...

Hello Darling,
Life’s long friend,
Am I sane,
Or round the bend?
...

The whistle blows and out we go,
To certain death, well, no-one knows?
A final glance along the trench,
Friends eyes meet and then we wrench,
...

My life is like a journey
In an overloaded car,
I have to drive so carefully
And I know I can't go far
...

In a rage the mad dog plunges,
Fangs a gleaming, eyes on stalks,
As if it was the beast itself,
Woman stands no chance,
...

Pain is all around us,
People stagger, and they fall,
Though drugs supplied like peppermints,
Do no good at all.
...

You made me promises,
You could not keep,
So I sit here alone,
My head in my lap..........and weep,
...

O Little child of prophecy,
Staring deep into the night,
I beg of you please tell me,
What is to be my plight?
...

Day after day she stays in the house,
The television’s always switched on,
She seeks a way out,
Wants to scream and to shout,
...

I saw you,
I liked you,
I met you,
I liked you more,
...

I saw you,
I liked you,
I met you,
I liked you more,
...

I saw you,
I liked you,
I met you,
I liked you more,
...

He saw you,
He liked you,
He met you,
He liked you more,
...

16.

Overwhelmed by your innocence,
Your beauty, your grace,
My eyes, they lit up,
My heart began a faster pace!
...

My body shakes,
I’m all a-quiver,
Emotions flowing,
Like a river.
...

The time is half-eleven,
The place is in my bed,
My thoughts, they are of you dear,
Buzzing round my head
...

Coventry Mary out for a walk,
Saw a cat and stopped for a talk
''Hi little cat', Mary said
Stroked her tail and stroked her head.
...

Hey diddle diddle!
The cat in the middle
of a wheelie bin on a hot day
The old lady laughed

Overwound

Ever felt like an overwound clock?
No more tick and no more tock,
Just sitting still,
Gathering dust,
Your head so full,
You feel it will bust?
“I have”.
