Marney L. Norwood Poems

Take a good look at me.
Am I all that you supposed?
Or just a scrawny little gal
With freckles on her nose.
...

Jesus laying in dat crib
Is yo' dere so's ah can lib
Ober dere de white folks say
Ah is made of hard black clay.
...

I've got you my darling
To have to hold and to love
Just as the angels in heaven
Hold the star in the blue above.

Cream Of The Crop

Take a good look at me.
Am I all that you supposed?
Or just a scrawny little gal
With freckles on her nose.
See how the years have beat me down
I'm skin and bones you see
Can't even eat a decent meal
For I'm toothless as can be.
I look like a bean pole
With two string beans for my legs.
A mop is used to make my hair
And my two arms are wooden pegs.
My big brown eyes are bulging.
My feet are number tens.
And when a man looks at me
He winds up with the bends
And when I go to bed at night
For my beauty rest I say
I snore oh so loudly that
It sounds like foghorns in the bay.
