Sound



into the deep jungle
a heart-rending sound
is wafted

over there at the Yoma's foot
a few human habitations
a brush stroke of fields
on nights of hillside bonfires
a town wearing a ruby necklace

that little sound-
has it fallen?
out of a rucksack of
some backpack travelers?

or has it been brought along
stuck to the retreating winds?

or has it flowed like the Irrawaddy
from the flute of
some old buffalo herdsman?
