Melanie Hernandez Poems

How many more times do I need to cut into my flesh for your happiness?
How many more nights of silent tears shed?
How many more prayers unanswered?
How many more smiles do I have to plaster?
...

Don’t ask me to be your savior when I can’t even save myself.
Don’t lie to me about anything because I could just throw you away like everything else.
Don’t put your faith in me because I can be a let down.
Don’t try to understand me because I know that you can’t.

How Many?

How many more times do I need to cut into my flesh for your happiness?
How many more nights of silent tears shed?
How many more prayers unanswered?
How many more smiles do I have to plaster?
How many, how many, how many?

Tell me when will I be able to breathe?
When will I see the light at the end of this cavern?
When will I able to feel; instead, of feeling so numb?
When will I see myself finally content?
Tell me, when, when?

I’m tired of this repulsive world drowning me in sorrow because each time I try to swim to the surface they pull me down.
They grab my legs screaming with their might.
Their crimson hues pierce into my eyes.
I can hear, hear the demons whispering forcing me to drown with them,
And when they succeed, I can no longer breathe.
