Merin Sabu Poems

In a class full of desks and benches,
I'm the lone chair in the corner.
While they take the tones of the Earth,
I'm blue. Neon. Artifice.

Wish I could freeze time, and
listen to a hundred songs by the sea
with the waves whooshing noiselessly
dancing to my tunes.

The Lone Neon Chair

In a class full of desks and benches,
I'm the lone chair in the corner.
While they take the tones of the Earth,
I'm blue. Neon. Artifice.

I don't stand out. I go unnoticed.
Only when my legs snap am I visible.
I'm matter that does not matter.
Insignificance screams from my very core.

My light may gouge out many eyes.
So destiny is a grey life in the shadows.
My voice is noise tuned out by chatter.
Nothing holds value anymore.

Stuck in a twisted, topsy-turvy world
Where awkwardness is seen as arrogance.
Honesty is slander and good grades hard work.
The need to leave is great.

Cornered by hopes and unreal dreams,
Confused by a thousand smiles,
Forced to see through this haunted life
Without being one with one.

So in the corner stands the lone neon chair-
The kid parents leave behind.
The useless white crayon.
Locked away in solitary, discontent.
