Anchor's Up

On the frosty windswept banks of a busy Baltic port
One part spirit, one part planks
Did I slide off life support

Off the dry dock, off the crane,
Through the harbor, to the main
From Designer to designed,
Anchors up and no rewind

Where I went, I marked the way
Rippling the resting Green,
But the sea, to my dismay
Promptly picked my breadcrumbs clean

Many flags have billowed past
Crooked deck and upright mast
Tactless trireme, scheming schooner
That I could have spied him sooner

Every now and then, I venture
Into waters still and clear
Where reflection's cleansing censure
Washes out the buccaneer

Where the mirror is perturbed
By the tears of guilt deserved
Well-deserved, my well is drained
And I'm sea-worthy again

So reformed, I wade back out to a frothy cool embrace
Buffeted anew with doubt
That I'll someday find my place

Then do I piano seize
Tame the chaos with its keys
Hammer shut the briny din

With JS Bach and Beethoven
