Yesterday

Seven pairs of you,
moving in a flair,
circling and pacing,
the steps of yesterday's simplicity.

Around and around you go,
twirling and expressing,
with those you hate now,
because you loved them yesterday.

But now today is yesterday's tomorrow,
and I only wish it were just that simple,
but why must I see this hate,
from the love that swept around me?

I remember you all,
a lady dressed in black,
with her man on her arm,
suave and debonaire, he thought he was.

And you two,
who stayed together for so long,
finally separated,
to my utter dismay.

Now for the two I cannot understand,
who could only be with each other for so little time,
with love I could not comprehend,
and understanding I could only desire.

As for you two,
one of you cheated far too often,
and I chided you;
don't you remember?

And she who I wished I'd met on better terms,
you remeber that day,
I'm happy you're with him,
happier than you know.

And the two of you,
I lived with one,
and God help me if I can't explain, because I can't,
how I came to know Her.

And finally, my favorite dancer,
whose moves amazed my sparkling eyes,
fluid and slick,
smooth as silk.

But there is one who I will never forget,
as I descend from the clouds,
and see you in that circle of seven couples,
ready to take you in my arms.

Floating effortlessly in the sky,
a passionate kiss I cannot deny,
for where ever the wind blows,
certainly your kisses will be there.
