No Llores, Estará Bien

many people assume that all citizens of war stricken countries hate foreign soldiers.

I never quite understood that.

I saw what they did for us, to protect us.

Not every soldier wants to rape local women,

kidnap local children,

And kill local men.

Most soldiers are just here fighting

To save me from my own corrupted government.

Willing to risk their lives for my right

to tell this story

That day, everything was normal

It was just an average day in spain

I was home cooking lunch for my family

as they were on their way home from

the doctor's office

At first, i thought the booms were

a neighboor dropping something

or perhaps a knock on the door.

Little did i know, I was about to

Lose everything

I didn't know that we were being bombed.

I didn't know that the bombs would kill my mother.

my father.

my grandmother.

my 7 year old brother.

My 3 year old sister.

I didn't know that i would be left in the rubble

as a 14 year old kid in what was now

a war.

I didn't know what to do.

So i thought i would look for them

as i was making my way down, i saw our old car

in the street.

the roof of it was collapsed and the windows,

shattered.

The face of my father in the driver's seat,

covered in blood

i turned and ran

on my way, i see hundreds of bodies.

hundreds.

of my neighbors.

of the soldiers trying to save us.

there was a younger looking blonde woman

walking through the streets

whispering to herself

carrying something on a small necklace chain.

The only living person i've seen.

so I follow her.

At first, i think she must have suffered

some sort of brain injury

and that she was just roaming.

But upon our arrival in a bloody field,

I see what she was after.

Su novio.

Her boyfriend.

He was not in good shape.

Split in two, caked in blood and dirt.

face, almost all gone except his eyes.

she kneeled next to him,

tears brimming her eyes.

I say "no llores, estará bien"

Do not cry, it will be okay.

I start walking to give her space.

As i am about 300 yards away,

I hear a boom come from behind me

It must have hit her because

I walk back

and she is laying next to him,

Eyes closed and bleeding from her ribcage,

breathing shallow.

I kneel next to her, place my hand on her shoulder,

And whisper to her

no llores, estará bien

no llores, estará bien

no llores, estará bien
