In affairs of the heart it is a dog eat dog world.
'Nothing personal, ' she says as she twists the knife a little deeper.
All the while she sits across the table leaning in a little closer -
just in reach to wipe the ranch dressing from the corner of your mouth.

I am comforted by this screen. It keeps the world from my view.
It gives me a sense of security. But it also keeps me from you.
The gentle purr of the hard drive - the rythmic tapping of keys
is calming the chaos. The only sound that I need.

Time is passing again.
I saw it just the other day.
Running late, only glancing in the mirror
arguing with the woman facing me.

The rain is falling again.
Background music for the imagery in my head.
First, softly - Then it quickens.
Coming in waves it blankets me in desire.

They bring me such joy these little ones.
I am not sure why I waste time on the unnecessary.
I could bundle up all the anger, jealousy and bitterness,
put it aside and leave it in the attic of my memories.

Whether they come from someone you know
or you think you know.
