Winter Forest Soliloquy

Heavy winter guards the frozen forest ground
I could hear your voice so I did not make a sound
Only my shadow knows my secret
And it told the rising sun
That the words I had for healing
Had melted on my tongue

I found a golden chain hanging from an old oak tree
with hardstone cameo of who the man I used to be
I put it in my pocket with the locket of your hair
Doesn't care was made to bare the fruit our despair
The words you sent burden me are burning on your tongue

I laid down my body on the cold forest floor
Frost bought silver coins to weigh my eyelids down
Snow laid over me like a goose down shroud
Sleep whispered in my ear a sacramental prayer
Save it for the crossroads and I will meet you there
I won't rest until the tears I taste turn into words of love
