Sleep

A shadow from the soul is creeping
Through the meadows of the mind.
The prisoner in the house of memory
Dims the lights and draws the blind.
Thinkers in the mire of learning
Wearily give up their quest,
Senses from their fields returning
Merge as one and sink to rest.
As night dissolves the light of day,
The mind itself dissolves away.

Beyond the world of seen and heard,
Beyond observer and observed,
Beyond the realm of time and space,
Sleep reserves a resting place.

Egos struggling to be free
Infest the mind's duality,
Avoiding pain, acquiring wealth,
Preoccupation with good health;
Sinners reaching for salvation,
Mystics seeking realisation.

Beyond all striving to become
The seeker and the sought are one.
Sleep rounds off each daily quest,
Reality itself is rest.
