Waking Up On Mars

When the shock hits
and grips you with terror
suddenly your life is over forever
Nothing is what it is now
Was anything ever?

It all happens in a flash
yet goes on for ages
Every part of you changes
with a subtlety so cruel
There can be no return

Your loneliness
is made clear to you
via an ignorance
that is desperately near
Time and time again
it strikes you back here
Is the battle even real?

Years pass by
You make sense of the storm
but the imprint of harm
never leaves you behind
after waking up on Mars
