Thorn Of Lies

We forget what we are told
By our parents, elders, etc., etc.
They told us everything
But we forgot

I was lost and a man told me to listen,
To listen to him.
And I did,
I listened.

He told me many things,
He told me about life…
…About death
More about death then about life.
Yet, still I listened.

He said to me, “men will say they are true,
But they lie,
Women show that they are true,
But they lie,
Children give you truth,
But they lie,
All you ever learn are lies.”

“Lies” he said, “lies.”

He told me more

“People who sin say this:
That they had to, so survive.
People who sin say this:
That it's too late to stop.

“I think I would like to do something for somebody
I think it's good if someone smiles when you smile at them,
The beauty of voluntary acts
can foster goodwill in the hearts of others
Love which doesn't ask for collateral
gives us respect as people.
However, it is wrong to try to sustain that
In time,
the strain will bloom into the flower
called Lie,
the thorny flower which hurts people.”

He told me all he knew was a lie
So I continued to listen
But he could tell no more truth,
So he lied

In a world made of lies how can I find the truth?
“There is no truth”
Lost in a jungle of lies how can I escape?
“You can never leave”
Sinking in lies, who will save me?
“No one has saved me”

“All you can do is lie
Call it your own and lie
Take what you want and live as you will
And lie.
That is all there is, and
That is my kingdom, my kingdom
My kingdom of lies.”

The man in the cardboard box
He knows only of lies,
And everyday he cuts himself deeper
