Azure Sea

we have come from near and far,
from lands burning with war and strife,
with God's help, well cross the azure sea,
and flourish in our brand new life.
what about our daughters? where are our sons?
the murderers will spare not one soul,
so we will cross the azure sea,
we hope you'll fill our begging bowl.
all our money the ferryman takes,
he squeezes every last drop of blood,
but we must sail the azure sea,
and leave our lands behind for good.
we bake under a merciless sun,
we shiver under a careless moon.
now we can smell the the azure sea,
high tide can't come too soon.
they pack us on an open deck,
they curse us - our hope betrayed!
now we can feel the azure sea,
all we do is pray we're saved.
now we are flotsam and jetsom,
shouting and crying for mercy!
in the clasp of the azure sea,
take my hand lift me to safety,
who hears us? who sees us?
who cares about these rafts of pain?
at the mercy of the azure sea
will we ever reach France or Spain?
down to the depths we go
lifeless - drifting in the currents embrace,
how cruel is the azure sea?
now to God i must turn my face.
