A Poem For My Wife

I love you, such an easy thing to say.
Yet what sustains it, gives it strength to live
In depth of bone that time may not o'ersway,
And find, in daily waking, new found love to give.

You are the earth under my feet,
You are the sky that brings the sun and rain;
You are the apple of my eye,
And when I sleep I dream, to love you yet again.

The life that we have made is built of wood and stone;
Of angel's breath, the sighing of a child.
And when I'm lost, yet I am not alone;
For you are there, close there,
Both fierce and mild.

And when I die, howe'er long that shall be,
A better man I was for ever loving thee.
