The rain swept across the name
Of 1st AIF and a digger's fame
Who crossed the seas to our acclaim
Such an adventure to be had he proclaimed

Where does the time go
Where we have lived the show
Those times that were best of all
And others painful to recall
...

I wander down the road
Feeling the heavy load
Of those things we held dear
And were so sincere
...

What is it that we keep to ourselves
Those things not for others to delve
We keep hidden away from the crowd
Not to be taken paraded and bandied out loud
...

We have lived a life together through
Without regret we weathered it too
Any challenge which would come our way
It was you and me come what may
...

I turned and hid my face away
From the nightmares that would stay
I gathered myself whilst my strength built
Being determined that to the evil I wouldn't yield
...

What is the search for truth now
Is it a set of facts that are palatable some how
A version that will be easy to digest
Or something that a court will ingest
...

I lie awake at night
I'm not in it for the fight
Can't you see I'm grieving
I can't stop believing
...

Your memories are so clear
Of places things and people so dear
Remember them in their prime
As the years roll back in time
...

What are our collective memories
Of rain on a tin roof at night
Whilst snuggled under the covers
Not wanting to be anywhere else
