mostly he stayed in 1973
the year he was 14

the tidal stream reversed direction
as regular as the moon
narcissistic feral child he
ebbed and flowed

a nor'easter took him out to sea
and then
spat him back on shore it
bashed his brains out on the rocks

ebb and flow
ebb and flow
nothing of any consequence
eyes now full of wild cadence
now drained of savor altogether
rage on those rocks
bashing bashing bashing then
falling washing away
but never quite killing him

transcendence was his word
it came
crawling out of his mouth
onto dry land
he reveled in its deep power
he didn't see its
meaninglessness

be either elated etherized
or
be even the beast in Eden
