Salt Marsh Supper
Among the spartina roots, Fiddler Crabs
Hide in sandy burrows from long-beaked
Searchers. The Otter, the Raccoon and the Mink
Search and the Least Sandpiper,
(A hell of a name, not used by his coworkers) ,
the Marsh Wren, The Green Heron, the Green
Turnstone; all gobble Anchovies.
The Purple Marsh Crab skitters from the Wimbrel.
The Ribbed Mussels clean water for the Blue Crab
And the Spadefish, special favorite of the Plover’s
Towering friend, the Ibis, so graceful, so white, so tall.
