1.

I see bright beams escaping
Reaching for the ground
Glorious beams of silver which
Escape the black surround.
...

I only ever wanted to
Be an ordinary tree,
To grow big, green and upright
- have people look up at me.
...

When you were small we used to go
to the stream near Nannies place
and on the way we'd pick up twigs
to use in our 'Pooh Sticks' race.
...

In an old dirty street
On an evening so mild
The salesman bought a Bible
For his little child.
...

Ups and downs
Peaks and troughs
Tesco bills
Kids with coughs.

Beams

I see bright beams escaping
Reaching for the ground
Glorious beams of silver which
Escape the black surround.

These storm clouds which assemble
Gathering power in their midst
Can't stop these shafts from trying
To let the calm persist.

There's example here for people
When hope is out of sight
Within your hell and blackness
Seek the beams of light.
