Poem by Gifty Narvee

Vipers' snares,
Scorpions' stings;
A thought you should welcome
when dancing in the wild.
Caution with every step,
wisdom you need, with every breath.
I am the wind,
Passing through all.
Meandering obstacles equal to stones at my feet.
A soft breezy kiss on your face,
and your eyes shut with surprise.
You open your eyes and I am gone.
The only evidence,
the feeling of freshness leaving you.
I am the sun,
peeping through dangerous clouds.
A shine here, a blaze there.
Waiting patiently for my time to scorch,
and it will surely come.
I am the mighty Iroko,
With branches over-stretching the plains.
With leaves as green as life,
My roots are firmly placed.
Not a blade made of man do I fear.
I am, and I know that I am.
So, even when I dance through the wild;
Even when I step into viper lairs,
Even when I run through scorpion fields,
I know I am,
Because my creator is
the meaning of enduring love.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem when I was feeling very low one day. I was feeling quite sad. I felt like pouring my heart out and through that, God gave me a message. I am His image, therefore, I am.
