08/23/2014 Poem by Shawn Marie Edmiston

My super power is control over my emotions.
Love hard, than shut it down until the next round.
You might be my kryptonite if didn't know better
If I wasn't able to turn and leave my feelings somewhere
On your porch when you shut the door
Tucked in the corner where I can pick them up the
Next time right before I walk in,
And when I leap into your arms
I can pretend it's our first kiss
All over again.
And for awhile we create the illusion
That we have the dream and forget
For a moment that we are both
Unready and unwilling to commit to this.
You are my Amas Veritas uncast
The embodiment of what I would want
If I wanted a man,
But since we both know who we are
And what we can't handle,
We will keep it in a box
Until it's time for recess.
