1 Before Bed Poem by Adam Thoms

1 Before Bed

You're on the careless side
Shedding light onto things that you should hide
I'm aware that it hurts more at night
I hope that you last 'til light.

You're on the way if you're craving attention
Not positive, it's called intervention
Their focus is not the cause of the problem
They'll blur it in with the pills they say solve them.

One before bed to help you sleep.
Another in the morn to keep your tongue in cheek.
The label said they should last through the week
Now the problem is keeping knife in its sheath.

This is just a taste
Life is not a race
Don't play it like a game
It'll only end in shame.

You say that you've heard it all before
These words are tension on a string
The sound is burning gasoline
This empty bottle left you begging for more
The last pill is a crash
This empty bottle means you're never coming back

Now there's an issue
Without pills you'll need more than tissue
To dry up this pool
Granted your spotlight you play it cool
A dead king can't rule.

One before bed to help you sleep.
Another in the morn to keep your tongue in cheek.
The label said they should last through the week
Now the problem is keeping knife in its sheath.

This is just a taste
Life is not a race
Don't play it like a game
It'll only end in shame.
