1000 Burials, One Dead! Poem by Gedion Onyango

1000 Burials, One Dead!

You were great and wise omuntu

The birds and the trees in my village sang your honor,
I also heard my mother and grandfather of my father loved you.

Oh! Great Omuntu,

Wise one
children and grandchildren
and I your neighbor
Will never see you again!
But you will live in our soils
And our ancestors will welcome you with joy
You died here
But you've been buried
In a 1000 villages
