17th Poem by Benoni Chortle

17th

You were born today, seventeen years ago
The candle on the cake is set and ready for you to blow
All your family and friends are there
I, on the other hand, am left in despair

Oh, what has come of this?
Long ago it was just friendship and bliss
Along the road I took a wrong turn
Leaving me with memories for which I yearn

My apologies for all that has happened
I pray on your birthday you won’t be saddened
Be thankful and enjoy the day God has given you
Be strong in Him for we know His Word is true

I’d just like to greet you once again
A warm, kind, thoughtful greeting from a friend
Things along the way got quite rough
I just miss talking to you about stuff

I don’t know if ever again you would talk to me
All my flaws and weaknesses you see
Or forgive me coz’ I have faults as well
Time will heal, and only time will tell
