A Golden Shovel after the poem 'dying' by Lucille Clifton (Mercy,2004) , for the children of Lucille & Fred Clifton
i know how deeply you grieved the day we had to go
that mourning as they forced us from our dear home
at 2605 Talbot Road we had found sanctuary and i
hold blossom-sweet memories of you all in this house i am
remembering bright-eyed children on the porch waiting
remembering too the many gatherings we held for
kindred souls light-filled artists i love you
always knowing that you could find me there
