4 Drops Poem by Lalip Nanda

4 Drops

Rating: 0.5

The pain so piercing,
Damn the bullet.
Out of the hiding,
Is death with its ugly face.

Never cried my whole life,
Didn’t feel any pain.
But have tears in my eyes now,
As I am at the end of the chain.

The first drop, nostalgic,
Takes me to my child hood.
When I used to be sick,
And in innocence I brewed.

Wish the drop would go and wash their feet,
Being away I repent.
They loved me and brought me up
They were my parents.

Try to shift a bit,
And in pain, a second drop rolls.
Me in my youth,
Like a lion, on the prowl.

But even I got tamed,
Fell for a maiden.
Loved her and became a part of her,
Now leaving her a widow, am I to be blamed?

The third drop, was painful,
Reminded me of my children.
How will they fair in their life?
Forgive me, a father wails…

But then, the fourth consoled me,
And the bigger picture I could see.
For the country I had laid my life,
And in death now, my memories will survive.
