A Band On Knee Poem by Fred Rik Kesner

A Band On Knee

There once was a lonely abandonee,
Who sat on grass under a willow tree,
Left all alone, feeling so forlorn,
With a broken heart and a sleeve all torn.

To pass the time while the hours flew,
He took to the arts and music, too—
He hired a troupe of a small degree,
And strapped securely a band on knee.

The drummer was drumming a steady beat,
Right on his shin, near his tired feet.
The trumpet blew notes near his knee-cap's bend,
As the sax played jazz to the very end.

'I may be abandoned, ' he said with a grin,
'Left out in the cold by my kith and kin,
But no one can say that I lack for glee—
I'm an abandonee with a band on knee! '
