A Blessing Before I Came... Poem by Adedamola Ajibade

A Blessing Before I Came...

Loud i cried when i came
The world heard me- yes they did
To tell them what happened- you felt no need
A blessing from God- that was what they said
A new born baby- a blessing indeed.

You cuddled me and kissed my little hand
I would tell the world i just had a son
A man from birth, a king I've got
Happiness i caused, blessing i was

A lot of care i got from you
Even the spanking i believe was good
Little you said but much i learned
I learnt alot from the way you lived

I grew well and my friends could see
A good man you are they said to me
From a good woman i said to them
A mother so good- i can't compare

I remember the day you called me a king
I kept thinking- what could this mean
Am i a ruler? where is my kingdom?
Little did i know that Death was near

You told me to kneel and you prayed for me
You prayed for me when i became a man
I opened my eyes and i saw my kingdom
Great men and women, those are my siblings
You left in a car that was the last i saw

He is a blessing- people said at my birth
A bigger blessing - they could not see
You brought me up and taught me to live
A good example is what you give
With what I've seen- You were the blessing
A big blessing before i came

[Dedicated to my late Mother]
