A Break In The Dark Poem by David Brush

A Break In The Dark

Darkness swallows me whole
Shadows are my boon in life
Nothingness dwells in the center of my soul
My days are filled with sadness and strife

Empty promises litter this land
No one to care, No one to love, No one to hold
Meaningless words flow upon me like a drifting sand
In here the pain only grows to those who are bold

There is a comfort in nothing
A blessing of a non feeling heart
Even nothing is something
The two are the same and never apart

Off in the distance, a pale glimmer of light
Wishful thinking, Imagination, Or just a dream
A speckle of dust or a trick of the sight
Maybe the dying of my soul, Not quiet, But a scream

There it is again, This dream of mine
Not just a wish but a flash
It grows brighter this time
Just enough to make my heart dash

I strain my eyes to see what is Hope
I try to gain my bearings on what should I do
Fear envelopes me oh how can I cope
The light I fear the most, That light is you.
