A Christmas Dinner Poem by Sandra Black

A Christmas Dinner

O dear delicious soul
You filled me up like a Swiss roll
Like beans on toast
Like chicken roast
Like treacle pudding
And turkey trimming
Your breath was full of trifle
But not once did it stifle

A creamy pancetta
A Yule log and more
You filled up my longings
And left me craving for more
A veggie ratatouille
A Lancashire hot pot
You filled up that vacant spot

Now that I am nicely done
Can I ask together
To bask in the sun?
A little lemonade of togetherness
A picnic basket of turkey leftovers
A Sunday brunch of hot turnovers?
I can never have enough of thy oneness
