A Coat For Life Poem by Prafulla Kumar Panda

A Coat For Life

Long back,
i cut a coat for life
as it fitted well, I treated it well
it glazed all through the spring,
so, in breeze I did gleefully swing
and sang the joys and sewed them all into a string
cleaned, cared and I did perfectly grow,
puffed up as if I was roaming in the Eden though
even forgot to reckon when days did grow
into months, and months into years,
until I found some hazy eyes, with jeers, lurking around
and reminding me about
my shattered relation with the loved ones
that's once safe and sound

as the sun does southward jump
and the north wind does enough chills pump
my tattered limbs ruefully reel under
a messy, short and rot cover
that covers vermin and bugs that run
in and around and they nest on
ruthlessly thrusting me out with a voice-
"your days are gone'
in a time
when I stand alone
in the dusky sun
amidst my shattered relation.
